The Must-Do Attractions And Landmarks For Tourists Visiting The City Of London

There are many excellent attractions in the English capital that tourists should head to when on holiday. They should make a list of all the amazing places they can visit to create a map of destinations, so that they can see everything they desire. Top of the list definitely has to be Buckingham Palace as every tourist should see this wonderful piece of architecture at least once in their life. Travellers will appreciate the stunning interior that can be toured around in the summer months when this working royal residence opens its doors to the public. Visitors will be mesmerised by the stunning furnishings and beautiful staircases.

The palace also holds the Changing of the Guard ceremony in the morning at 11.30am that involved a new guard arriving to take over from the previous person. Travellers will be familiar with the famous guards who wear red tunics and will appreciate the pomp of this special ceremony. Another wonderful destination to visit is Westminster Abbey that is the city’s oldest church and is the burial ground of many of the country’s famous monarchs. It is also the setting for royal weddings and coronations so it should certainly appear on a tourist itinerary. This incredible building contains a wonderful collection of monuments and tombs.

A great place to stay when in London is the Park Avenue Hotel Belgravia that is close to Victoria tube station allowing tourists to travel around the city easily. This hotel in Belgravia is one of the best as it’s near many shopping destinations including Sloane Square and Knightsbridge. The Houses of Parliament should definitely be seen as this British seat of government has a stunning building. Nearby are the London Eye and Big Ben that are both attractions tourists should visit when in the English capital. Trafalgar Square is a beautiful part of the city that is fun to just have a wander through admiring Nelson’s Column. There are a range of excellent galleries in London that art fans will really appreciate when they visit. One of the best is The National Gallery that was founded in 1824 and includes paintings by Da Vinci, Picasso and Renoir. Travellers must also head to the Tate Modern to enjoy the superb contemporary art.

St Paul’s Cathedral is one of the most important landmarks in the city that is known for its beautiful dome and provides incredible views over the capital. Hyde Park is one of the most amazing green spaces in London that offers a wonderful children’s playground as well as space for sports such as tennis, football and horse-riding. Shopping in the capital is a great pastime and there are numerous retail hubs to visit including Oxford Street and the designer stores of Knightsbridge such as Harrods and Harvey Nichols. Tourists should also try out the city’s vibrant markets including those found in Borough, Camden, Brixton and Notting Hill.
