Which is the Best Time to Visit London?

London is beautiful, attractive and full of attractions and there is always something to see and do, irrespective of the time of the year. It is true that its weather is most unpredictable throughout the year and it does not get unbearably cold even in the winter although you can find the atmosphere to be drab, dull and the skies to be overcast at any time of the year. As such, it really does not matter when you visit the city although spring and summer seasons are slightly more tolerable than the other seasons. Moreover, it can start raining at any time and it is advisable to keep an umbrella or a raincoat always with you. Heavy showers are possible even in high summer.

The prime tourist season is in late spring and in summer when there is a surge in tourist arrivals leading to long queues at all major attractions and the escalating hotel rates and airfares. The winter season sees less number of visitors and as such airfares and accommodation deals are quite commonly offered during the fall and winter seasons. December is preferred by many tourists although it gets chilly, because of the festivities that take place during Christmas and New Year. As such, any season is a good season to visit London and visitors have to base their decision on other personal factors. Anyway, a season-wise analysis is given below for people intending to visit London so that they can decide for themselves.

Spring (March to May): If you wish to beat the crowds to arrive in London, the ideal time is the spring season when the royal parks and gardens are in full blossom, and you will find that the attractions have smaller queues and better accommodation at more affordable cost is available easily. The summer has not yet arrived and the weather is still cold but a few events will still be there for you to enjoy such as the Patrick’s Day Festival which showcases Irish pride in London with parades, music, craft fairs that promote Irish culture and heritage along with a lot of food stalls in the Trafalgar Square area where you can see the fountains gushing water and plenty of Irish beer. The annual Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race also takes place in late March or early April, having been doing so ever since 1829 on the River Thames. The race only lasts half an hour but the after-party extends late into the night. If you are a sports enthusiast, you will enjoy the London Marathon that takes place on a Sunday in mid-April involving some 35,000 runners. It starts in Greenwich and finishes at Buckingham Palace providing a treat both for the runners and the spectators. The other events during this period include Museums at Night in May, RHS Chelsea Flower Show in May and State of Opening of Parliament. This is also the best time to enjoy the good weather as the temperature is around 20 degrees Celsius and longer daylight hours are available.

Staying at any of The Montcalm Hotels London, guests can enjoy most comfortable accommodation, best location, ideal facilities, bespoke amenities and personalised services that have been designed to pamper them and to provide one of the best experiences of their life.

Summer (June to August): This is the busiest season when tourists in their thousands come to the city every day as the weather is good with the mercury hovering around the mid 70s Fahrenheit and sometimes going up to the lower 90s. However, you can face rain at any time but despite that, it is the most pleasant time to visit London. There is a lot to do and see such as music shows and open air cinemas and relaxation in the parks, gardens and rooftop bars. The key events that you can enjoy during this period include Wimbledon Championships in June-July where you can spend a day watching an important match and enjoying a picnic like environment.  You might also be able to spot some celebrities and have a great day, provided the rain does not play spoilsport. The other events in this period include Trooping the Colour in June, London Pride in June, City of London Festival in June-July and Notting Hill Carnival in August.

If you truly wish to have an unforgettable stay, there is nothing better than staying in 5 Star Hotels in London as these hotels provide the ultimate in luxurious accommodation in well-appointed rooms with ideal in-room facilities, bespoke hotel amenities and personalised services, while being located in the heart of the city.

Autumn (September to November): This is the time when London’s cultural offerings are at their best and tourists are still lingering on. The temperatures are in the mild 60 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit range that are ideal for enjoying events such as Guy Fawkes Night, Halloween, pre-Christmas celebrations and others. London is also bright with autumn colours during these months. The main events that take place in this period include Museums at Night in October, Guy Fawkes Night in November and The Lord Mayor’s Show in November.

Winter (December to February): The weather is chilly but there are fewer tourists and as such smaller queues, lower hotel prices and airfares and you can have a great time at lower cost. However, December again gets tourists as it is the festive season and people are out to enjoy the holidays. You can get the true feel of the city minus the usual crowds and the temperatures will be between 30 and 40 degrees Fahrenheit. London sparkles during this period with twinkling lights and a number of festive events take place. With average temperatures ranging between 1 and 8 degrees Celsius, it is advisable to be properly clad to withstand the cold weather and to enjoy Christmas festivities and the Christmas markets. The main events include London Parade, Pancake Day and London Fashion Week and of course, the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
