How to Make the Most of Eight Days in London

It is not without any reason that London has earned the distinction of being the most visited city in the world. It richly deserves this honour because it never ceases to amaze visitors with its unending attractions and activities that offer insights into the city’s history, culture, landmarks, and other offerings. It is also a fantastic place to take your family along with you as there are a plethora of family-friendly places to visit and activities to do. As such, it can become quite intriguing at times to be able to decide what to do, when to do and how to make the most of your limited time in the city. The following itinerary might help you as it provides plenty of fun, unique, and educational opportunities that you and your family will enjoy thoroughly.

Settling into London: You need to be alert and full of energy to be able to tackle the enormous task of visiting various places in London and as such, it is important to settle down in your hotel room or serviced apartment. After relaxing in your room and getting out of the jet lag that you must have experienced, you can take a walk around your hotel to get used to the place and get friendly with the concierge to get any information that you may need regarding your movements in the next few days. You can also get information regarding the nearby attractions and places to eat. While moving around the hotel, you can look for things that you did not carry with you from home such as shampoo, contact lens solution, toothbrush or any other item, at a nearby market or a pharmacy. It is also the time to buy Oyster Cards if you have not already done so. It is best to relax after that and prepare to take on London from the next day.

While visiting London, it would be a good idea to stay at one of the Finsbury Square London Hotels as they are located in a strategic area which is close to many of central London’s attractions and they are available in different categories to suit the needs of people with different budgets.

Tower of London, Crown Jewels, and Tower Bridge: It would be a good idea to get a London Pass as it will ensure fast track entry into most attractions particularly those that have long queues for admission and you get many other benefits as well. You can start the day at Tower of London which will reveal London’s history as it has served as royal palace, a prison, a place for executions, a zoo, a museum, a mint, menagerie and a jewel house. You will be fascinated by the Crown Jewels that you can see here. It is best to take a Beefeater Tour and hear interesting stories pertaining to its history covering over a thousand years. You can then visit the Tower Bridge which is right there. It is a worth-seeing drawbridge over the Thames and has two Gothic towers that are linked by high-level footbridges that provide splendid views of London and the River Thames below. Your family will be delighted to walk on the glass floor of the walkway high above the Thames. After leaving the bridge, you can walk west along the South Bank of the Thames and see the skateboarders and the graffiti walls. The Shakespeare Globe Theatre is also close by.

If you wish to stay in a trendy and hip area of London, it is best to choose M by Montcalm London Tech City which is located in Shoreditch and offers luxurious accommodation with best facilities and excellent services.

Buckingham Palace and London Museums: If you are in London during the summer, it would be an ideal opportunity to see the breathtaking inside of Buckingham Palace and Changing of the Guards outside. You can also see the Horse Guard near St James Park. By taking a round outside the gates and around the corner, you can view the Royal Mews with its fleet of royal cars and carriages. After lunch, you can see some of the free museums especially the Natural History Museum, National Gallery and the British Museum that have a lot to offer to the entire family.

Day Trip to Stonehenge: On the fourth day, you can take a day trip to Stonehenge, an iconic landmark which is worth seeing and will leave you simply awestruck. An ideal day trip should cover Windsor Castle, Stonehenge and Bath, all in one day. It is best to join a tour for this purpose.

Piccadilly Circus, West End Theater, and Fabulous Shopping: If you go to Leicester Square at 10am, you might be able to pick up cheap theatre tickets for shows at a West End theatre. There are many family shows for you to choose from. Going south of the ticket booth you will reach Trafalgar Square where your kids will be delighted to see street artists and statues. In this area, you will find M&M’s World, which is the largest candy store in the world; the world’s largest Lego Store close by; Piccadilly Circus; and Hamley’s Toy Shop where your kids can spend the entire day; and shopping along Regent’s Street.

Westminster Abbey and the Prime Meridian: You can reach Westminster Abbey and then see Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament also. You can then walk down to Westminster Pier and take a cruise to Greenwich and see the suspended British clipper from the 1800s – the Cutty Sark and then see the Prime Meridian and the Royal Observatory to stand in both hemispheres. To return, you can take the Greenwich foot tunnel underneath the Thames and reach Canary Wharf on the other side.

The next day can be spent by seeing St. Paul’s Cathedral, Millennium Bridge, Tate Modern, Shakespeare Globe Theatre, London Eye, and on the last day of your stay you can take a customized tour of Harry Potter sites and the Warner Bros. Studios.
